Jarmo Vellonen

I graduated from the college of the Finnish Academy of Arts in 1983, majoring in sculpture.
I have since been working full time as a self-employed artist. My art has not been true to certain styles or materials. Rather, I have allowed the subject, nature and content of each individual work to determine the execution and materials.

Installations and environmental art have been part of my work from the outset. In addition to my work in "free" sculpture I do portrait bust and sepulchral stones, using granite and bronze.

I use sandblasting techniques on glass, e.g. for decorative door and cupboard panels, bathroom windows and separations, and glass tables and sideboards. My work is represented e.g. in the collections of the State of Finland and the towns of Savonlinna, Mikkeli and Porvoo, as well as those of the municipalities of Sandviken in Sweden and Nanto in Italy.

Some commissioned works can be viewed in Porvoo Central Library, in the park of Villa Aikala in Helsinki, owned by the Finnish Medical Association, and at the Artisan School of Mikkeli.

I have been active in artists' guilds and organisations both local and national. I am a member of the Association of Finnish Sculptors and of the KKV-B (Artists' Collective Workshop) in Sweden. I live and work in Porvoo, Finland.
